The Empty Gift Box

On the occasion of Birbal’s birthday, Emperor Akbar decided to surprise his most trusted advisor in a unique way. During the court gathering, Akbar walked up to Birbal with a beautifully wrapped gift box adorned with silk ribbons and intricate patterns.
“This is for you, Birbal,” Akbar said with a grin.
Birbal accepted the box with a respectful smile. But when he opened it, he found it completely empty. The courtiers watched closely, some suppressing laughter, expecting Birbal to be puzzled or disappointed.
Instead, Birbal looked up at the emperor, his face calm and content.
“Thank you, Jahanpanah,” he said warmly. “This may appear empty to the eye, but a gift from your hand is never truly empty. This box carries something more precious than gold your affection, your thought, and your gesture.”
Akbar smiled, deeply pleased with Birbal’s humility and wisdom. “Only you, Birbal,” he said, “can turn an empty box into something full of meaning.”
The court applauded, and the moment became one of quiet joy and reflection.
Moral: A heartfelt gesture holds more value than what the hands can hold.
